A Moment to Brag

I am so incredibly proud of my sister, Marcy. Many of you know that she has spent her last 30 years as an actress, singer, and dancer. She got her degree in Theater at Sac State. She has been in so many amazing productions and done so many incredible things. She has seen rejection and disappointment over the years. When I hear about each of her projects, she gives me the Cliffs Notes version of what's happening. For the past few months Marcy has had 4 or 5 jobs. She was asked to choreograph the Christmas Carol for the Sacramento Theater Company. Plus teach some Master classes at the theater during the weekends. All on top of her regular job of teaching dance and theater to elementary kids. Oh, did I mention she has gone back to night school?

My point?? Well other than to let my sister know how very impressed I am with her and her talents and abilities. I just think that due to stress and fatigue, sometimes we don't realize how incredibly blessed we are to be so talented. I read this review of the Christmas Carol and beamed . Marcy you are so amazing. You're living the dream!!! I can't wait for what the future holds for you. What ever it may be.... you deserve it!!
If any one is in the Sacramento area or know someone who is, have them go see my sister's piece of magic.

It's hard to believe that the Sacramento Theatre Company's adaptation of "A Christmas Carol" is 20 years old, since it remains so vibrant and fresh. Richard Hellesen's script, based on Charles Dickens' ghostly holiday tale, and the late David de Berry's original music and lyrics, based on traditional sources, were first performed by STC in 1988.

Hellesen had reason to be beaming after Saturday night's opening, for this year's production was outstanding. Stronger than last year's, with singing and dancing to match the always high quality of the acting, this "Carol" positively sings.

Director Michael Laun maintains a lively pace and seamlessly integrates the musical numbers with the acting. Marcy Goodnow's choreography is impressive, particularly the big dance number staged at Fezziwig's party.

The story advances by song and narrative as well as dialogue among characters. Hellesen's literate script celebrates Dickens' language, and the words actually sound natural coming from the actors in this strong ensemble.
