My beautiful Lulubell started 4 day preschool this week. Like nothing, she went in and got to it. She made friends with the son of an old friend of mine from high school. She's a fireball of a 4 1/2 year old and I love her.
I got the privilege of going to Time Out for Women in Sacramento with some pretty amazing ladies. We got to stay over night and we had a blast. Can't wait for next year in Reno. Who wants to come for a visit in Oct and come with?
Leah was asked to give the scripture and prayer today in primary. She was excited for it and we had been practicing at home. She is shy and was quite nervous. She loves to sing but has yet to go up with the primary for any of their songs in Sacrament meeting. Anyway, she had a slight meltdown and thought everyone was laughing but they were only laughing because she couldn't stop giggling. Afterward she wanted to stay with me so I took her to my Sunday school class full of 16 & 17 year olds. She decided that she didn't want to be there either so off she went back to class.
Come to find out Dad had to hang out with her in Primary today to finish out the day. Which gave him the opportunity to observe a certain energetic 7 year old whose behavior was much less than desirable. On the way home we helped him recognize which parts were not okay. As we arrived home he asked what his punishment would be. The idea came to me that he should teach the family a lesson about respect. We got home and he got right to work. He found a story in The Friend magazine, chose a scripture, and wrote down his thoughts. As he delivered his lesson to us we copied his earlier behavior in Primary. We wiggled, elbowed each other, fell out of our chairs, and acted just as he did with a bit of exaggeration in case he wasn't getting the message. After he finished he walked away with a quivering chin. We gathered him in our laps and asked what was wrong. He explained that he had worked so hard to teach us a lesson and we weren't even paying attention. We discussed how that must be how his teacher felt today. We chatted more about good places to be silly and loud. He made the correlation and you could see how he totally understood. We asked him if he would consider trying to teach us again. We listened as he taught us. It was a really good lesson and we told him so. So thankful for a teaching opportunity today and how much better we felt helping him to think of how other people feel. It was so much more effective than a time out or me expressing my frustration for poor behavior.
